Weekly acidic cation exchanger

Through dealkalization, the hardness and the bicarbonate content of the water are reduced, thus typically reducing the salt content in the water by approximately 75%. Used for production of boiler water and district heating water as well as process water in breweries. 

Advantages and references

  • The need for blowdown of the boiler is considerably reduced compared to the use of softened water solely as boiler feedwater.
  • If the water composition is suited for dealkalization, the method is suitable for large boilers and it is inexpensive in operation.
  • When brewing, the bicarbonate content is important. This can be adjusted by mixing dealkalized water and raw water. 

Plant description

  • The plants are produced as one-tank and two-tank plants.
  • The tanks are made of steel and can therefore resist pressure fluctuations. They are also surface coated with PPA, a high-performance factory applied polyethylene coating. Thus, the filter tanks combine the strength of steel with the strong anti-corrosion properties of the PPA (C5-M).
  • A complete plant for production of boiler feedwater typically comprises
    • dealkalizer,
    • CO2 deaerator, and softening plant.

This type of plants is used for treatment of ground water and surface water typically for reduction of iron, manganese, ammonium, and aggressivity in waterworks, companies, and private households. Pressure filter plants can also be used for special fields of application such as dechlorination of water, reuse of process water, filtration of seawater, percolate filtration, final filtration of industrial or municipal waste water.

Plant description

Flow rates of standard modules: Up to 100 m³/h per unit. The plants come with manual or automatic backwash. The tanks are made either of steel or stainless steel. Inside, the tanks are protected against corrosion according to job and likewise, the choice of filling is based on individual considerations. Efficient backwashing for continuous and trouble free operation. In the lower part of the pressure filters there is a nozzle plate with special nozzles.

The design offers some significant advantages:

Activated carbon is a natural product made from carbon, wood, or coconuts. An activated carbon filter can remove free chlorine, chloramide, chlorine dioxide, phenols, organic solvents, and pesticides.

Carbon filtration has great capabilities in industry, breweries, waterworks, and wastewater treatment.

Plant description

The product range comprises filters of many different sizes and materials. All carbon filters can have automatic backwash. Carbon filters are also available in stainless steel with CIP (Cleaning In Place) for disinfection.

Filtration plants cover various plant types:

  • Pressure filters for filter bag Ideal for filtration jobs with heavy demands on flow rates and space. Used for filtration of boiler water and cooling water, circulation water in district heating plants, rinse water in the surface treatment industry and in the electronics industry, as well as for process baths, etc.
  • Сartridge filters, used for filtration of small water volumes. Typical fields of application are industrial and process water as well as cooling water and hot water systems.
  • Hydroanthracite filters, Pressure filter for multilayer filtration. Great flow velocity. Suitable for collection of mucous particles. Used for polishing of conventionally treated waste water, filtration of circulation water such as cooling water, and for filtration of water from fish breeding, etc.
  • Used for jobs where the water contains large quantities of mechanical impurities. Filling is composed according to the job in question. Innumerable fields of application within industry including water recovery and filtration of circulation water.
  • Sand filters, Pressure filter with sand filling. Used for pre-filtering prior to any other water treatment, for reduction of SDI (Silt Density Index) before RO, filtration of cutting coolants, etc.
  • Carbonization plants, and plants for special filtration projects. Pressure filter with hydrolite Ca filling. For example used for hardening of water from freshwater destiller, which it used in the marine industry to produce drinking water by evaporating sea water.

Through softening, the calcium and magnesium salts in the water are exchanged for sodium salts which do not cause the disadvantages of hard water. The method is used in industries and institutions for treatment of water for steam boiler plants and district heating plants, laundries, cooling towers, rinse processes, washing, dishwashing, etc.

The broad program makes it possible to choose the optimum plant for the project whether the need is continuous or discontinuous water supply.

Plant design

Flow rates for standard modules: Up to 150 m³/h per unit. The plants are produced as one-tank plants and multi-tank plants as well as cold water plants and hot water plants. The filter tanks are made of steel and coated with polyethylene. Each plant is supplied with a control unit adapted to the job. The plant can either be timer controlled or meter controlled. Meter control gives the best average water quality and economy.

Frame-mounted plants ensure safe and quick installation

Several of the two-tank plants can as standard be delivered as a unit in which tanks, pipe system, and controls are built together and mounted on a frame. The concept "Plug & Play" ensures a safe and quick installation.

Hot water plants

Several of our plant series can treat hot water up to +85°C. Filtertank, nozzle system, and the 5-cycle valve are designed specially for this purpose. The construction makes the plants suitable for sanitary installations.

Brine tank - brinemaker

The brine tanks are made of breach proof polyethylene and are esy to fill and clean. The brine maker can be added to several of the plant series and is delivered as standard with the STFA plant.

High quality drinking water is vital and the UV treatment is an extra security measure to ensure clean drinking water by eliminating the risk of microbiological contamination. UV light

UV light can efficiently reduce microbiological growth in water. UV radiation with a wavelength of 254 nanometers kills bacteria, viruses, algae, and fungi by destroying the DNA of the microorganisms. Disinfection by UV light is applicable to almost all water types.

Description of UV systems

The UV plants are developed by German Wedeco, which is one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-quality UV disinfection systems. Flow rates of standard systems is up to 6000 m³/h. The product range comprises several systems for disinfection of both drinking water and process water.

Certified UV plants

Certified and non-certified plants can be selected. For the certified plants, it is documented by test that the required minimum dose is achieved. This ensures a high level of safety and the best documentation in relation to authorities and consumers.

Types of the UV plants:

  • Wedeco type Aquada - Appication: drinking water and process water within the Food & Beverage industry. The series comprises three types, each of which comes in five sizes. The systems consist of a cylindrical reactor of stainless steel with a UV lamp in a quartz pipe. Available with or without UV sensor.
  • Wedeco type: Spektron e, Large - Application: drinking water and process water within the Food & Beverage industry. Certification: ÖNORM og DVGW. The system is equipped with temperature monitoring and UV sensor. Biodosimetrically tested.
  • Wedeco type: Spektron e, Small - Application: drinking water and process water within the Food & Beverage industry. Certification: ÖNORM and DVGW. The system has IP65 protection class. At air temperature less than 25oC, 8 hours of zero flow can be achieved. Extra cable length is possible.
  • Wedeco type: Spektron industrial -  Application: drinking water and process water within the Food & Beverage industry. Certification: ÖNORM, DVGW and UVDGM. The plant comply with the strictest requirements in terms of hygiene and food safety. The sensor-controlled system OptiDose ensures monitoring of the operating conditions in real time including flow, UV transmittance and UV intensity.
  • Wedeco type: ME - Application: drinking water, process water, ultra-pure water and for special use in pharmaceutical. The series comprises nine types. The systems consist of a cylindrical quartz pipe through which the water flows. Several UV lamps are on the outside of the quartz reactor. Reactor and lamps are in a stainless steel housing. Equipped with UV sensor. The systems are sanitizable.
  • Wedeco type: BX - Appication: drinking water and process water within the Food & Beverage industry.Certification: Selected systems are certified in accordance with the Austrian ÖNORM and the German DVGW. The series comprises four types. The systems consist of a cylindrical reactor of acidproof steel with Spektrotherm® UV lamp in a quartz pipe. Equipped with UV sensor. Also available in PE. Biodosimetrically tested.
  • Wedeco type: Quadron -  Application: drinking water and process water within the Food & Beverage industry. Certification: DVGW, UVDGM. The series comprises three types. The compact size of Quadron makes it the ideal solution for installation of a UV disinfection system when space is limited. The plant has a chemical-free cleaning system and a monitoring system with a sensor per lamp to ensure that the correct UV dose is always used.

Above, you see an example of a fully equipped container. The container has been designed for a power plant and the water will be used for cooling water (8 m³/h), boiler water for high pressure steam turbine (6 m³/h), and drinking water. The container includes the following plants: Active carbon filter, pressure filter plant, softening plant with brine tanks, dosing stations, bag filters, doubble-pass reverse osmosis plant, dealkalization plant, booster pumps, and control cabinet. The shown container is insulated and equipped with door-in-door, light, and air-conditioning.

 

The concept


A water treatment solution consists of several treatment steps, e.g. filtration, softening, and demineralization - all controlled from a central control cabinet. These units must be put together on site. If the end-user or the contractor is uncertain if the installation can be carried out locally within the determined economic and temporal scopes, it can be an advantage to order a water treatment plant (container or frame-mounted) which is ready for use when supplied.

The solution is complete with all internal piping and wiring factory-built. The whole plant has been performance and pressure tested in our factory. This safety can be achieved with a EUROWATER frame-mounted plant or a container-installed plant.

With a container, you also have the advantage that the container itseslf is an actual building which in this way can be left out in the project. The containers can be delivered with and without insulation and can be equipped with lighting, air-conditioning, door-in-door, emergency shower, etc. We have constructed many different custom-made plants adapted to specific demands and wishes. Below, you can see different examples of this. We are happy to make quotations for start-up of plants and training of the operating crew.

  • Complete water treatment plant in a 20 feet container. The solution consists of dosing, carbon filtration, softening, and demineralization through a reverse osmosis plant.
  • 40 feet container with water treatment consisting of oxydation and filtration in a pressure filter plant type TFB 20. The plant has a capacity of 90 m³/h.
  • 64 m³/h demineralized water produced in a reverse osmosis plant. A dosing plant is also installed in the container.
  • EDI plant with a capacity of 60 m³/h totally demineralized water with a very low conductivity and silica acid content for producing boiler water for high pressure steam turbine. The pipe system for the treated water is made in PP (Polypropylene) connected by welding and each takes app. 15-20 minutes to make. In total, 570 weldings have been made for this plant. Each EDI cell is fitted with own test cock.

Plug-and-play water treatment plant for biomass steam boiler

The water treatment plant is designed for producing 2 x 3.25 m³/h ultrapure water as make-up water for high-pressure steam boiler. The WTP-F from EUROWATER consists of: water pre-heater, duplex softener, 2 x RO, 2 x EDI, central plc control cabinet including online hardness measurement, conductivity measurement, and flow measurement.

 

Frame-mounted water treatment plant for turbine water

This complete water treatment plant is made for a 90 MW power plant in Africa. The plant is designed for producing 

  • 1.5 m³/h ultra pure water for turbine
  • 7.5 m³/h demineralised cooling water
  • 2.0 m³/h water for fire fighting etc.

The skid comprises the following water treatment plants: Filtration, activated carbon filter, UV-disinfection, dosing of antiscalant, mechanical filtration, double-pass reverse osmosis, EDI (electrodeionization unit). Everything is controlled by a central PLC with touch screen.

 

Frame-mounted scavenger and demineralization plants

Due to the fact that it is expensive and sometimes difficult to carry out installations and assembly in the offshore industry, it is sensible to do as much of the assembly and testing off-site as possible.   

The shown plant is mounted on an epoxy-coated, construction iron skid with drip tray.

The plant is designed for 9 m³/h and consists of filter bags for removal of mechanical impurities, scavenger plant for removal of organic, suspended matter, demineralization plant, plant for neutralization of regeneration chemicals, and a central electric control cabinet.

Our new series of compact units type CU:RO consists of complete reverse osmosis system together with pretreatment on the same stainless steel skid – ready for use. The concept brings you the following advantages:

  • pre-determined system with a range of standard options for pretreatment; makes purchase and design straightforward
  • factory-tested as a whole; leaving you with minimum risk of errors
  • frame mounting; makes a secure and quick installation
  • compact design with minimum footprint

The series includes 5 different sizes with standard output of demineralized water from 0.4 to 2.0 m³/h - each available with three options for pretreatment.

Proper pretreatment of the feedwater to an RO system is an essential factor for unproblematic, long-term operation. Clogging of the membranes by suspended solids, scale-forming minerals, and other impurities have to be prevented by appropriate measures. Hardness minerals can be removed in a softener, suspended solids in a mechanical filter, while free chlorine can be removed in an activated carbon filter.

You can select between the following pretreatment options:

  • 1-tank softening plant
  • 2-tank softening plant, parallel operation
  • 2-tank plant with combined filling for softening and removal of free chlorine, parallel operation

Moreover, all units are equipped with a special mechanical filter (strainer) which is reliable and easy-to-maintain. A backflow preventer to separate the unit from the public water system is also standard on all units.

Control panel SE30

A EUROWATER designed control system integrating an operator panel and a programmable logic controller PLC is accessible on the front side of the unit together with flow meters and manometers.

The control panel offers a user-friendly HMI environment. The panel has a large, illuminated display for optimum operator control and monitoring. The menu structure is standardized and available in several languages for easy and quick access to operating data and parameter settings. User-friendly keys on the panel front make interface possible without violating the IP54 protection class.

Reverse osmosis units are used for production of demineralized water without use of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. Among other things, the units are used in boiler houses, district heating plants, hospitals, dialysis centres, and laboratories, for process water in the pharmaceutical industry and the chemical industry, as well as in connection with humidification plants. RO units remove pyrogenics as well as bacteria and cause no wastewater problems. The units remove up to 90% of the organic substances and retain 98-99% of the salt in the water.

Advantages

Storage and handling of acid and lye are avoided. The units are extremely space-saving thanks to the compact design. The plants are of high quality, need minimum maintenance, and the reliability of operation is very high.

Unit description

Flow rates for standard modules: 50 l/h - 60 m³/h. RO plants are either produced as standard modules or custom-made according to requirements. The units comprise selected components of high quality. They are automatic with electronic quality monitoring.

Custom-made plants

There are many possibilities of custom-made solutions. Nearly all parametres and components can be varied and combined. EUROWATER has great experience in producing RO pipe systems in many types of materials such as PP, PE, PVDF, and stainless steel. The foundation and frame, too, can be delivered in stainless steel.

Nanofiltration is often used for treatment of drinking water and industrial process water.

  • Reduction of sulphate, chloride, and fluoride

Industrial process water

Partial softening and reduction of colour and humus from surface water in e.g. the iron and metal industry and paper mills.

Nanofiltration or reverse osmosis?

Reverse osmosis is typically used for demineralization of water, since this filtration method covers the widest field of application (see the diagram). Nanofiltration, on the other hand, is applied in order to reduce unwanted components in full or in part. Unlike reverse osmosis, nanofiltration applies a lower pressure, typically under seven bar, resulting in lower energy consumption compared with a reverse osmosis plant with the same productivity.

You must also choose a nanofiltration plant over a reverse osmosis plant if you want a certain hardness, because a potential demineralization will make the water aggressive and lead to problems with corrosion in the supply network.

The technique behind

Nanofiltration is a membrane technology, which in its mode of operation and construction is very similar to reverse osmosis. A nanofiltration membrane primarily restrains divalent ions and larger molecules. An EDI plant is used after RO for polishing of demineralized water to obtain low levels of conductivity and silica. EDI is an alternative to a conventional mixed-bed polisher.

Flow rates up to 60 m³/h. EDI plants are either produced as standard modules or custom-made according to requirements.

  • EDI is a continuous process and utilizes chemical-free regeneration. Therefore, regeneration downtime is eliminated and storage and handling of acid and lye are avoided. The plants are space-saving on account of the very compact design. The plants are of high quality, need minimum maintenance, and the reliability of operation is very high.
  • EDI plant with a capacity of 60 m³/h totally demineralized water with a very low conductivity and silica acid content for producing boiler water for high pressure steam turbine.
